A derby, as well as a classic indoor handball match, concluded the P18 competition at Åhus Beach Handball. IFK Ystad overpowered HK Malmö with more for defensive variety and full throttle in closing attacks.
IFK Ystad remained second in the group and HK Malmö took first place among eight competitors despite two crosses in eight matches on Thursday/Friday. Upon reaching the playoffs, Ystad’s progress meant that HF Karlskrona, Lödde Vikings and Halmstad Handboll disappeared from the tournament. Malmö only needed two knockout matches, narrow two-goal wins over Alingsås HK and Åhus Handboll.
The final started with several defensive strengths before Melvin Petersen scored 1-0 and Filip Einarsson equalized immediately. The poor early shot was soon forgotten as the teams oscillated between successful breakthroughs and precise passing, usually with Ystad one or two goals up.
With four minutes left, a blowing attack for the Southern Scanians came and Malmö equalized (7-7) from the right corner. In accordance with the philosophy of beach handball, the match did not hold and weighed more than a few seconds, Ystad found the right at 8-7 and raised their line of defense, which stressed Malmö.
Despite the disadvantage, Malmö never gave up, but a sending-off made things even more difficult and Ystad’s ability to score with every attack in the closing stages did the trick.
IFK Ystad–HK Malmo 11–9
