Qualification for the IHF Super Globe tournament is complete. Al-Kuwait won the “Arab Handball Champions Championship” and edged out competitors including Algeria and Egypt in the fight for the last spot.
Al-Kuwait hardly stood out as they finished third in the group stage, but took it seriously when the knockout matches began in Qatif, Saudi Arabia. The IHF report on qualifying days notes that Al-Kuwait had an experienced backbone of nine meters, Frankis Marzo and Angel Hernandez.
The quarter-final ended 37-33 against Al-Huda and the semi-final also went their way (29-27) although the National Bank of Egypt pressed Al-Kuwait for 60 minutes.
Ability side Zamalek SC were on the other side of the pitch in the final and had the upper hand at halftime with 18-16. Marzo, who scored 13 goals in the gold medal game, became a deciding factor, often played by tournament MVP Saif Al-Adawany at center nine.
The final field of twelve teams competing in Saudi Arabia from November 7 to 12 is complete:
SC Magdeburg
