More than the ski world championships, they resemble the world safety championships: from health to total protection. A really special edition that of Cortina 2021, which will certainly go down in history because of the health emergency and the absence of the public, but not only. Because a 360-degree safety plan has been organized on the snow of the most famous and admired resort of the Dolomites which will ensure the smooth running of the event and the protection of more than 600 athletes from 70 nations, who will be protagonists on the track from February 7 to 21. Leonardo, technical security partner, will take care of it. of the Alpine Skiing World Championship, which has set itself the task of “watching” not only over the athletes in competition, but also over the territory, the community and all those involved. Leader in the security, defense and aerospace sector, Leonardo will serve the Cortina Foundation and the police forces involved – State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza – its most innovative solutions.
All places affected by the event (facilities, access routes, logistics nodes dedicated to arrivals and departures, public places) will be covered by a advanced video surveillance and video analysis system with real-time data collection, analysis and classification of information. A network of 30 cameras (high definition, infrared, fixed), connected to an advanced video content analysis platform, it will be able to recognize and classify families of objects and analyze scenes, identifying dangerous situations, thanks to the use ofartificial intelligence and deep learning. There will be one to manage information, establish a common response plan and coordinate field operations 24-hour joint operations room. Continuity of service, even in an emergency, can be guaranteed by a network for secure and reliable business communications on the move, thanks to a RIM (Multivector Hybrid Network) system for narrowband transmissions (TETRA – TErrestrial Trunked RAdio ) and wireless broadband. (LTE – Long Term Evolution). Finally, the integrated mobile security system, a solution installed on board a vehicle and equipped with a complete operational control room, which integrates advanced technologies and sensors, a critical multi-technology radio system for secure and reliable voice and data communications, as well as video surveillance equipment, with immediate response capacity in emergency scenarios.
Certainly not the first time Leonardo has been involved in such important events. Indeed, the experience and knowledge of safety in particular situations, such as the 2021 World Ski Championships in Cortina, derives from previous collaborations with organizing committees and national law enforcement agencies for the management of major events, including the 2006 and 2014 Winter Olympics, 1000 Miglia 2020, the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, the G7 Taormina 2017, the Jubilee 2016, Expo Milano 2015. Today, Leonardo is also involved in infrastructure-related activities for the 2022 World Cup.
