The opening of the Municipal Season of Opera and Ballet aims to become (or re-emerge) a moment that characterizes the life of the city of Ferrara. His word Marcello Corvino, artistic director of the “Claudio Abbado” Theatre. “The opening of the opera season is a tradition that comes from far away. Testimonies report what happened at the Bonacossi theater. in the eighteenth century it took place during the Carnival period – he explains – and it was a very important moment for the city, meeting, exchanging and celebrating. We want to bring to light this beautiful city and at the same time Italian tradition. Staging an opera is a complex undertaking, involving hundreds of people: from conception to design, direction, dress rehearsals and finally on stage. Opera is precisely one of the reasons why we are famous in the world – continues artistic director Corvino – just think that some of the Korean singers are now present in Ferrara for Turandot they know Italian, a language they learn through studying the works written by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini. It is no coincidence, then, that in Ferrara the city’s theater is central, in dialogue with the Castle: the latter is the symbol of the government, the other, opposite, is the intellectual and creative part of the community. Ferrara is historically capable of important opera seasons and in recent years, as Teatro Comunale, we have started producing again and are creating important collaborations in Italy and abroad. For this reason, the opening on 24 November aims to be a moment of celebration, fun and celebration of the cultural and creative potential of a city that has a very important history.”
