FIFA World Cup 2022: interesting facts about the championships

This year it will be played for the first time in November and December, that is to say in the middle of the season already played. The World Championship in Qatar is accompanied by many scandals. The awarding of the championship to this country was already very controversial.

“It was a bad choice and I bear the responsibility for it, as president at the time,” acknowledged former FIFA president Sepp Blatter in a recent interview. Qatar, which is barely bigger than the Central Bohemian region, is considered too small and the World Cup is too big an event for them.

The election itself, in which Blatter also voted to award the championship to Qatar, was bound to be accompanied by corruption. Moreover, Qatar is not strictly a football country. It is ranked 58th in the FIFA rankings, just behind Mali. He will participate for the first time in the World Cup. Nevertheless, the Qatar national team managed to win the last Asian championship.

For the World Cup, the Middle Eastern emirate had to build a whole new infrastructure, including new stadiums. It is estimated that six thousand five hundred workers died during construction. This is also why some supporters are calling for a boycott of the championship.

The Last Legends Championship

Two players who have dominated the world of football in recent years – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – will be heading to their fifth World Cup.

And this will probably be the last World Cup they will participate in. Moreover, the draw has prepared a lot of tension for the fans: if Argentina and Portugal win their grassroots groups, they will only be able to meet in the final.

Both players can rewrite multiple records. Lionel Messi, for example, can surpass Lothar Matthäus in the number of World Cup matches played. It only remains to reach the final already mentioned.

Paradoxically, the two stars are not doing very well in terms of shooting championships. The German Thomas Müller is the best of the shooters who will also participate in the championship this year in Qatar. England shot-stopper Harry Kane is also doing well, having made just six World Cup appearances and scoring six goals.
