From May 19 to 21 the Sports Festival returns

One month on Sports Festival. The chase is on. From May 19 to 21 the Old Port of Genoa will be transformed into Italy’s largest and most exciting sports village, with direct sea views.
After last year’s extraordinary participation, with 120,000 entrants, Porto Antico and stars in sports I am working with bodies and clubs to prepare the 19th event, the most anticipated by “athletes” of all ages, levels and abilities. A great mix of events and activities to see, experience, experience, with lots of confirmations and some new features.

From Piazza Caricamento to Calata Gadda, from the Porta Siberia area to Magazzini del Cotone, the Sports Festival will offer over 90 sports to try in an “Olympic Park” of more than 130,000 square meters: from volleyball to football, from basketball to tennis, from bowls to gymnastics. And yet rugby, rowing, sailing, freediving, fencing, badminton, baseball, archery, athletics, equestrian sports, mind games, judo, ju jitsu and karate, kung fu, table tennis and more.

Sponsored by the Region of Liguria, the Municipality of Genoa, Sport e Salute SpA, Coni Liguria and the Carige Foundation, the Festival will be able to rely on the historic collaboration of Uisp, the Agorà Social Consortium and over 200 sports federations and associations .

Thursday 18 May (8pm, Sala Grecale – Magazzini del Cotone) there will be a tasting preview, the 24th edition of the Gala of the Stars in Sport. Many established champions and young talents will be celebrated on the “Night of the Oscars” with international guests and moments of fun and entertainment (reservation required at [email protected], free entry with collection of donations for the Gigi Ghirotti Foundation).

Friday 19 May will be, according to tradition, school day. Under the auspices of the regional office of the school, numerous events will be held for the students. It starts with the School Olympics, promoted by Stelle dello Sport together with Coni Liguria in Piazza delle Feste. A 20-minute multi-sport lesson for each class. Reservation is required via email [email protected]. As always, the Baby Marathon celebrating its 20th edition will be well attended (booking at [email protected]). Students, guided by their teachers, will be able to try out all the activities and disciplines of the Festival in the various fields. And that’s not all: in the Stelle dello Sport area, next to the stage in Piazzale Mandraccio, Free Sport and Eunike will offer sports competitions for students with the Special Olympics YAP (Young Athletes Program) and activities aimed at children with disabilities in the name of inclusion and inclusion. The school Palio Remiero is also back, organized by Ficsf and the stand promoted by Orientamenti.

A moment of the Sports Festival 2022

On the weekend, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May, the ultimate protagonist will be the sought after “Sports Passport”the tool that will allow young people to collect stamps for each sporting activity held during the Festival and thus win the Certificate of Participation, official Festival gadgets, strictly sports themed prizes and surprises.

It will be a Sports Festival full of sports shows and demonstrations, alternating without interruption on the three stages (Palco Mandraccio, Piazza delle Feste and Palco Millo). Over 100 events were planned, including performances, exhibitions, demonstrations, trials and sports and spectacles. On the stage of Piazzale Mandraccio, after the official opening on Friday (9.00 am) there will be performances every thirty minutes: over 60 in three days. On the pitches set up by Decathlon in Calata Gadda, the challenges of “Operation Nostalgia”, the football format that includes the participation of some “red and blue legends”, will be held on Saturday. Thanks to the collaboration of Ecopneus, a basketball court and a 60-meter running track will be created with materials made from recycled used tires, where UISP will plan many challenges and activities. The football stadium, which has been built with the help of the Ligurian Commission of the National Amateur League, will host two special comprehensive football tournaments (women’s on Saturday and men’s on Sunday). Lots of passion and movement also at Palco del Millo with three days of fitness for everyone.
On Sunday 21 May, starting at 9.30, the spotlight will be on Il Miglio Blu, a competitive foot race around the Magazzini del Cotone, followed by the Minimile, dedicated to little runners, with a shortened, personalized route that will it is filled with the enthusiasm and incitement of the public.

The sea will, as always, be the star of the Festival with sailing trials promoted by Primazona Fiv and Jet Ski Therapy scheduled for Saturday. It will be another important step towards it “Grand Finale” of The Ocean Race with activities and workshops and the special appearance of New Zealand Endeavour, the legendary ketch that won the round the world in 1993-94.

Sports Festival 2022

The Sports Festival will again bring tens of thousands of young people closer to sport and its values, who will be able to try all the activities and disciplines they want completely free of charge and with the constant help of qualified trainers and champions. A fundamental part of Genoa’s sports planning also towards 2024, the year in which the city will be the European capital of sport.

Among the innovations of this edition: the Army Camp promoted by the Army and the Subbuteo which, 75 years after its creation, continues to fascinate young people. The finals of the regional championship will also be held at the premises of Magazzini del Cotone and all mind games, table football, table tennis, Risk, badminton and more will also be “indoor”.

30 days after the ribbon cutting, the village map is essentially complete even if there is still room for some last minute news.
