BHC Gothenburg dominated SC in beach handball. The team won the gold medal for both women and men.
Over the weekend, the beach handball SC was decided at the Långvikens Arena in Kalmar. On the women’s side, four teams participated and one of them was defending champion Gothenburg BHC. The Gothenburg team were eager to defend their title and it turned out that they are still the best women’s beach handball team in Sweden.
Gothenburg BHC went undefeated throughout the tournament, where they finished by beating Lund BHC in the final.
On the men’s side, seven teams fought for the title, with Lund HBC being the defending champions. Once in the final, it was the favorite teams, Lund BHC and Gothenburg BHC, who faced off. An even and thrilling final ended with GBHC drawing the longest straw and winning gold. Victory in the final means that the team has not lost a single set during the championship.
The two winning teams of the tournament now have the opportunity to represent Sweden in the Champions Cup, which corresponds to the Champions League of handball. This tournament will be decided this fall.
Beach handball is played in two sets of 10 minutes each. For each goal, the team receives points depending on how the goal was scored. Teams can get one or two points and if they win a set they get 1 match point. Every set needs a winner and so it can be decided a golden goal. If there is a tie after two sets, the match will be decided by a shootout.
