Aalborg versus GOG has become something of a modern classic of Danish handball. But on Saturday, we didn’t talk about it.
After a powerful display, Aalborg managed to emerge as winners with a huge 33-23.
Aalborg have a habit of investing big money in high profile signings and this year is no exception. Names like Mikael Hansen and Niklas Landin have arrived, and so it’s no surprise that ahead of Saturday’s big meeting with GOG, they haven’t dropped any points in the first five rounds.
GOG, in turn, flew into the Champions League, where it won three victories in as many matches. Earlier this week, for example, they managed to beat the great Hungarian team Veszprem at home.
Hansen showed class
But by the time of the home match against Aalborg, it appeared that the GOG players had responded to a real shock earlier in the week.
After a balanced first half, visiting Aalborg took the lead with 14-13. But in the second act, the visitors ran away and the final score 33-23, in favor of Aalborg, speaks for itself.
In addition to a two-point lead and a lot of glory, Aalborg can also bring with them the return of big star Mikkel Hansen to the good old fashion. With his eight goals, he strongly contributed to the saved victory.
