The area is already working to welcome athletes and amateurs from around the world. the work initially involves the preparation of the technical ring Marianna Long, path about 5km with altitude difference, ideal for training. Then, based on the snowfall, it will be possible to approach the 30 km winter track that stretches from the central plain of Livigno to the area“Alpe Vago, to ensure a truly complete workout away from center distractions. For an even more complete experience, at Cross-Country Stadium you can get free locker rooms or book a course with the instructors of the cross-country ski school.
The endurance ring will be open daily from 6.30 to 12.00 to all athletes of national teams and teams, from 12.00 to 18.30 to amateurs, upon payment of the ticket.
Livigno is appreciated by the teams not only for the altitude, but also for the quality of the snow, which already at the end of October, is very similar to the winter they will go to.
to fight. Among the teams that chose Livigno in the autumn season are the national teams of Russia, Norway (the strongest national cross-country in the world, which chose Livigno as a destination for all high altitude training), Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, Germany (which also chooses Livigno for biathlon), but also the Japanese national cross-country team.
Every year, Livigno also hosts numerous competitions and contests aimed at both professionals and amateurs and attracting athletes from all over Europe and beyond, among which we find competition Sgambeda, the 35 km long endurance ski in freestyle with start and finish in Livigno, which in the 31st edition will take place on December 4, 2021.
Thanks to Snowfarm, the innovative method of keeping the snow in perfect harmony with the environment, Livigno can start building the endurance track, so that it is ready for the first openings of the winter season. October 23.
The technique first includes the collection, between March and April, of both natural snow and the planned seasonal snow resulting from artificial snow. during this period the snow is stored in the central plain.
A real mountain of snow is built here, first covered with sawdust, which makes it possible to isolate the summer air temperature and then with a geothermal sheet that reflects the sun’s rays. These two tools prevent and contrast melting, as they act on environmental factors, such as wind and temperature, which alone cause 80% of the snow’s transformation into water. Once the cover is complete, the snow remains calm for the summer months.
On average, about 80,000 cubic meters of snow are stored each year with an estimated loss of only 20%. This is a technique with a significant green impact, as it saves a significant amount of energy for the planned snowfall of the future winter season.
