“Grand Theft Auto 6” has been in development for almost a decade at this point, at least according to Jon Young, who until 2018 worked for Rockstar Games.
“Grand Theft Auto 5” was released in 2013 and is a smash hit like no other, with more than 185 million copies sold it is therefore the best-selling game of all time, only beaten by “Minecraft”
It appears that Young, with his job description at Rockstar Games, has been involved in the company’s projects from the earliest pre-production stages by producing “in-house journalism” and managing on-location filming to support many other departments.
Rockstar Games’ development cycles may have been extended over time, but the company has never rested on its laurels when it comes to “Grand Theft Auto” games. “GTA 5” began development around 2008, shortly after the release of the fourth numbered installment of the series. Similarly, pre-production of “GTA 4” began in November 2004, just when “GTA: San Andreas” was released.
And if Young’s report on Linkedin and Take-Two is to be believed, the development of “Grand Theft Auto 6” followed the same pattern. Hope we can wait the next episode of the “GTA” series around Christmas 2024.
