LASK lost 0-2 to Austria in front of their own home crowd

Vienna Austria celebrated their first victory in this Bundesliga season on Sunday. The “Veilchen” won 2-0 against LASK in the 7th round thanks to goals from Eric Martel (76th) and Noah Ohio (95th) and thus gave the red lantern to the WSG Tirol. The Linzers are just one point ahead, slipping to penultimate place.

Austria could have closed the sack early when some first-class opportunities were left behind. Marco Djuricin ran alone towards Alexander Schlager, but pushed the ball into the arms of the LASK goalkeeper (3rd). Seconds later, Djuricin rolled the ball from a good position beside the goal.

In the seventh minute, a shot from Aleksandar Jukic was blocked by the LASK defense. After the ensuing corner, Schlager repelled a shot from Christian Schoissengeyr and Djuricin pushed the ball over the crossbar.

Only then was the home team’s newly formed defense able to stabilize, Austria only became dangerous halfway before the break with shots from Lukas Mühl (31st) and Johannes Handl (45th), who were tamed by Schlager. But LASK was also very inconspicuous on the offensive – a blow from Hong Hyun-seok, which Austrian goalkeeper Patrick Pentz defused, and a header from Thomas Goiginger near the goal (40th) remained the highest of emotions for the moment. .

After the break, the game was initially dominated by LASK, but Upper Austria’s scoring chances were still limited. In the end, Austria became more dangerous again. Ohio missed a chance with a bad ball catch (73.), Schlager repelled a ball from Muharem Huskovic for a corner (75.).

LASK defended the next corner so poorly that Martel was able to shoot from the fifth. The German had previously jumped the ball in the arm in this action, but the video referee decided not to cancel the blow. In the 89th minute, Austria nearly went 2-0, but Ohio applauded too early, according to VAR, he was offside. For this, the striker had to push after an optimal preparatory work of Huskovic in the 95th minute only until the final score.

Before that, LASK had thought of nothing except a failure by Goiginger (92nd). Austria claimed the first league victory against Linz after eleven unsuccessful attempts. LASK, on the other hand, had been waiting for a home win since April and missed the dress rehearsal for the Conference League away game on Thursday against HJK Helsinki.
