After Emil Bergholt left Wednesday’s practice match in great pain, doctors feared the season was in jeopardy. But announcing now the club that it’s just a sprained ankle and the captain and supporters can breathe a sigh of relief.
In Wednesday’s match between IFK Kristianstad and Skjern, Skjern’s team captain Emil Bergholt was forced to retire injured after a collision with Markus Olsson. Bergholt must have landed askew on Olsson’s foot, and with the severe twisting of the foot, doctors must have feared it was a broken ankle.
Now comes some reassuring news for all Skjern supporters.
X-rays show it’s just a sprain and hopefully Bergholt will be back on the handball court soon.
– We can see on the x-rays that there is no fracture on Emil’s left ankle. It’s a common ankle sprain that will keep him out for a while. We are much wiser when the weekend is over and when Emil can be back. He cycled today, and is optimistic and above all very relieved that it will not keep him off the pitch for several months, Skjern Håndbold health director John Bruun told club website.
Skjern won the match 29-27.
Earlier this year, Emil Bergholt was introduced as the team’s new captain.
