The German basketball community is in mourning. Former basketball player Dennis Kramer (†31), who spent two years in Germany’s top competition, died in a car accident this weekend. His former club and the basketball federation offered their condolences to the family.
The accident happened on a country road in the district of Göttingen, Lower Saxony. There, in the darkness, Kramer lost control of his Jaguar, which overturned several times and ran off the road. Despite all attempts at resuscitation, he succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene.
According to the police, it is not yet known why Kramer’s car was pulled out of the bend. The prosecution had the basketball player’s car confiscated for further investigation. Second Division side BG Göttingen, for which Kramer played for four years, were the first to express their sadness over the former player’s passing on their website.
“It is with great sadness and dismay that we announce the death of our former player Dennis Kramer in a car accident. The whole Göttingen basketball family will miss his big heart, open and humorous nature and positive attitude. He leaves a great void and will be greatly missed. the club statement said.
There is also sadness within the German national team, which is currently competing in the World Cup. Kramer represented his country in the youth categories alongside Johannes Thiemann and Maod Lo, who are currently playing in the best European competitions.
“We mourn the loss of our former U18, U20 and A2 representative Dennis Kramer (silver at the 2015 Universiade), who died tragically in a road accident at the age of 31. Our thoughts are with his family and we will honor his memory. wrote the German Basketball Federation on its Instagram.
