Bonn, Cologne Deutsche Telekom has entered into a global alliance with the Japanese group Softbank. The partners wish to jointly invest in start-ups, and Telekom also wishes to offer Softbank holding company services to 240 million customers worldwide. Telekom boss Timotheus Höttges stressed on Tuesday that the cooperation was more than just a declaration of intent: “It is a strategic partnership”.
With Softbank, the Bonn-based group is making a strong ally against heavyweights like Google, Facebook and Co., which are increasingly entering the business of telecommunications operators.
Softbank is the world’s largest investor in tech startups. Softbank has invested in around 300 companies through its funds, including Uber and Tier mobility services. In Germany, Getyourguide and Contentsquare are part of the holding companies.
