Joachim Trier’s new dramatic comedy nominated for this year’s Norwegian Oscars.
Can “The Worst Man In The World” Be The Best Movie In The World?
The film is the last installment of Trier in the so-called Oslo trilogy, which also includes “Repris” and “Oslo August 31”.
It is about Julie, almost 30 years old, whose life is a big mess. She’s wasted her talent and her older boyfriend, Aksel – a successful cartoonist – wants them to settle down and start a family. When she sneaks into a party one evening, she meets the young and charming Eivind. She breaks up with Aksel and embarks on a new relationship in the hopes of gaining a new perspective on life. But she will quickly realize that some life choices are already behind her.
“The Worst Man In The World” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in July. It will soon be screened at the Stockholm Film Festival, then premiered at Swedish cinema on November 19.
Norway’s shortlist also included Eirik Svensson’s “Betrayed” and Yngvild Sve Flikke’s “Ninjababy” as two possible candidates. The last time a Norwegian film was nominated for an Oscar was in 2013 with “Kon-Tiki”.
