But why was this date chosen? The anniversary was fixed byUnited Nations General Assembly in 1972, to remember Environmental conference which took place in Stockholm from June 5 to 16 of the same year. During the summit, the United Nations Environment Program was outlined, which aims to raise awareness among people more and more about the challenges of nature conservation.
The goal for 2021
The common thread identified this year for World Ecosystem restoration: the aim is to prevent and stop the damage inflicted on the ecosystems of our planet. The United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration also begins on June 5, introduced with the global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from mountain peaks to the depths of the sea.
