Amo Handboll has finished with a new goalkeeper for the first season of the Handball League. Erik Helgsten leaves HK Malmö for newcomers from Småland.

Erik Helgsten, 25, has been at HK Malmö throughout his senior career, apart from a few loans (notably to IFK Skövde). Now he leaves Malmö after a season full of injuries and moves to Alstermo and Amo Handboll.

– When I had the question, I never hesitated. It will be fun to come to an active club in a small town where handball is noticed. I have heard very good things about Amo and see it as an opportunity to take the next step and develop myself in a new environment. I already saw two years ago that Amo was a good team when I was involved and lost to Amo in the Swedish Cup, he tells Amo’s website.

He thinks the club can do well in the handball league

– I think we have good opportunities to assert ourselves. I know there are a lot of good players in the team. The series will be, with the possible exception of three or four top teams, regular and exciting, he said.

Amo’s coach, Andreas Stockenberg, believes Helgsten can make a breakthrough this year.

– Erik is a calm and playful goalkeeper who has been promising for several years and is waiting for his big breakthrough and I hope it will come with us because he has all the conditions to become a top goalkeeper. It will be exciting to follow his development and I hope and believe that the change of environment can be an injection for Erik so that he can take the last step.
