Former defender Slavia Sankovic has died aged 42. The police found him dead

The sad news arrived from Slovenia this weekend: Goran Sanković, former defender of Slavia Prague, died at just 42 years old. His death is the subject of a police investigation after a participant in the 2002 World Cup has been missing since Friday.

Slovenian police said on Saturday afternoon that a 42-year-old man had been missing since Friday morning. A few hours later, all searches were over because the missing person was found dead. According to Slovenian media, it would be Goran Sanković, a former defender of Slavia Prague.

From 1996 to 2001 he played for parent club CMC Publikum z Celje, from where he moved to Eden. He played 21 games in a red and white jersey, after a one-year contract in the Czech Republic from 2002 to 2004 he played in the Greek league – for Akratitos and Panionios.

Sanković was a member of various Slovenian national football team selections and captained all youth categories. He scored 23 games for the twenty-one team and collected five games for the A team. He was the only Czech league player to watch the 2002 World Cup, although there is no not played.

He ended his football career in 2004 due to a serious knee injury, but remained in football. He organizes summer and winter training for sports teams and also works as a sports agent. In the 2006/07 season he was the sports director of the football club Publikum Celje.
