Cross-country skiing: Ebba Andersson talks standing in the shadow of the world's best national sprint team

With ambitions to place high in the World Cup, Andersson risks losing important points if she does not qualify and is allowed to participate in sprint competitions during the season.

Since you have ambitions around the general cup, have you ever thought that you should have a place in the sprint for this reason?

– I know what guidelines apply and on a weekend like this, it's because I'm not performing well enough in the sprints, says Andersson, who hopes to have more opportunities during the season.

“So of course the focus will change.”

Do you think you can win the World Cup overall even if you risk missing so many sprint races?

– That remains to be seen. The Tour de Ski is the big goal of the season, but if it turns out that I have a chance to participate in the World Cup during the season, I will of course change my focus, says Andersson and emphasizes that At least two sprint competitions are secure: The stages of the Tour de Ski at the start of the school year.

“I hope to be a little more specific”

On Friday she will cheer on her teammates in the sprint in Ruka and on Saturday she will make her World Cup debut with a classic 10km individual start. She was almost half a minute behind Moa Ilar over the same distance but in freestyle a little less than a week ago, but she believes the sensations are good and there is still a lot to do.

– I kept the good feeling I had and refined the rest and I hope to be a little sharper than in Gällivare. It's actually time for the World Cup premiere, Andersson says, expectantly.
