Gymkhana – five more figures to learn and train

Autumn is turning more and more into winter, but for a longer trip it is still easier to find a dry square than good weather. That’s why we constantly encourage you to start gymkhana training. Today we present the positioning of the cones and the “choreography” of the following five figures – L, Ikkyu, Hitch, Grapevine and Shiso.

In the previous articles of our series on gymkhan, you got to know the first group of basic figures and read expert Piotr Szkut’s advice on how to start training and what to buy before starting. Today another portion of slalom, turns and strange loops.

L-GP

As the name of this figure suggests, we will drive every five meters between three cones, shaped like an inverted L letter (seen from the start). Perform three loops as shown in the diagram and return to the starting point. The world record – 00:19.17 – belongs to Vasily Zogin on the Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Ikkyu GP

The placement of the cones for the Ikkyu figure is quite simple – they are two rows of three cones, spaced five meters apart. The challenge is to learn some pretty complicated choreography, combining slaloms with spinning around the cones. The record holder is Japanesek Haruhiko Tsujiie on Suzuki GSX-R1000, with time 00:36.17.

tow bar

In this figure, the cones are arranged in the shape of a cross. The path seems complicated at first, but there is some regularity and repeatability in it. The time of the record ride is 00:33.75.

Vine

To train this figure, we need four cones, arranged alternately in two rows. The route of the “grapevine” is a combination of slalom with driving around successive cones.
shiso

We place four cones as in a slalom, every four meters. In the first round we do a classic slalom, on the next two we add “arches” between the middle cones, in the fourth we make a wide slalom around the two cones, and on the fifth, last – we go around the extreme cones. World record holder Jan Smell on the Suzuki DR-Z400SM did it in 00:39.56.

We would like to thank Piotr Szkut (PYXIS) for the substantive consultation about the material and the photos.
