Kolod voted best teacher in the world

Kolod Fanous works as a native Arabic teacher in the municipality of Karlstad and on weekends she teaches Arabic to children from several municipalities in Värmland.

She is passionate about teaching children their native language and received the award for attracting so many students to the language classes and competition.

– This means a lot and I have a big task to work further with this. I am responsible throughout Sweden for encouraging more children to participate in the language competition.

Best nationally and internationally

To participate in the “Arabic Reading Challenge”, children must read 25 books and their ability to analyze, summarize and express themselves on the texts is then evaluated by judges.

Mahmod Hammad, 9 years old from Mariestad, who participates in the association's distance learning courses, first won the national selection and then also the international competition in competition with students from 20 non-Arabic speaking countries.

Read and write in the native language

The Arabic weekend school is run in collaboration with the adult school Studieförbundet and is politically and religiously independent. Today they have operations in Karlstad, Grums, Forshaga and Årjäng – and Filipstad comes next. The goal is for children with Arabic and other native languages to learn to read and write, as many know how to speak, but cannot read or write in that language.
