The inspiration for Edmonton’s run to the semis, then the harsh reality. Little Ben (†6) succumbed to cancer

The story touched the entire hockey world. Little Ben Stelter (†6), who was battling brain cancer, became a “sweet spot” for Edmonton Oilers hockey players late last season. He accompanied them to games and became an inspiration to them during the playoffs, where they reached the Western Conference Finals. Now the worst news has come from Canada. Little Ben lost his battle with cancer.

His father announced the tragic information to the public on a social network. “The world lost a very special boy and an absolute hero last night. Ben, you were the best son we could have asked for. Your sisters were so lucky to have such a big brother. You fought for a long time and hard against all odds,” he wrote on Twitter.

Little Ben was diagnosed with glioblastoma a year and a half ago. It is an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord. In March, he had the chance to meet his beloved Oilers in person. He even accompanied the captain himself and currently the NHL’s biggest star, Connor McDavid, on the ice before the game.

That night, the Oilers won 5-2 over San Jose, and from that point on, Ben was Edmonton’s go-to guy. Her presence carried the Canadian team through to the semi-finals, where they fought for the first time since 2006. There they were ultimately eliminated by eventual champions Colorado. “The Oilers have won 10 games in a row at home when Ben was in the stadium”, recalled his father on the social network in June.

The family also received condolences from representatives of the Province of Alberta. “We are saddened by the passing of our dear friend, number one fan, cheerleader and inspiration Ben Stelter. Although he was small in stature, his impact on our team and our community was enormous. said the Edmonton members as they bid farewell to the little big fighter.

Six-year-old Ben Stelter, who suffered from brain cancer, became a great inspiration to Oilers hockey players. Sadly, his dad recently announced that little Ben had lost his battle with cancer.
