Former US President Donald Trump wants to found an alternative social network. “Truth Social” is the name of the new platform, Trump announced in a post from a newly founded company. Truth means truth in German. The guest network is expected to start in November and nationwide in early 2022. The goal is to deal with the so-called “tyranny” of big tech companies. “We live in a world where the Taliban have a strong presence on Twitter, but your dear US President has been silenced.”

Twitter, Facebook and YouTube blocked Trump’s accounts in January shortly before his term in office. The trigger was the storming of the United States Capitol by Trump supporters – and the fact that he expressed sympathy for the attackers. He also continues to claim without any evidence that victory in the November presidential election was stolen from him. Twitter, where more than 80 million users followed Trump, was for him the most important communication platform.

Behind the platform hides a new listed company that will result from the merger of Trump Media & Technology Group with Digital World Acquisition, if regulators and shareholders agree, it is said. It should be a competitor of the “liberal media consortium” and defend itself against Silicon Valley companies that have used their unilateral power to silence opposition voices in the United States.
