Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová will not play for the title at the indoor tournament in Moscow. In today’s semi-finals, the Olympic silver medalist lost 3: 6 and 4: 6 to ninth seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia.
Vondroušová has not lost a hundred in the previous three Kremlin Cup matches, but it was not enough for Kontaveitová. Despite entering the match with a successful break, the twentieth player in the world went on to win five games in a row.
In the second set, the 22-year-old Czech, who occupies 35th place in the table, lost 2: 5, but then avoided two match points and reduced to 4: 5. However, Kontaveitová did not allow a turnaround and qualified for this year’s fifth final.
On the other hand, Vondroušová has finished in the semi-finals for the fourth time out of five attempts this season. She only made the final match in the Tokyo Olympics, when she lost it in Luxembourg and Melbourne, and last fell ill during the game in early October in Chicago.
Kontaveit, 25, will be aiming for his third title this year and his fourth of his career. Her opponent will be third seed Maria Sakkari of Greece, or house Ekaterina Alexandrovova.
Today, the women’s doubles finals are also on the program in Moscow, where Kateřina Siniaková will play for this year’s fifth title and thirteenth overall. Along with Jelena Ostapenková from Latvia, Raluca Olaruová from Romania and Nadija Kičenoková from Ukraine will play against the duo.
