Salzburg and Sturm continue with confidence in the Cup

Salzburg pulled SC Kalsdorf 8-0 (4-0) out of their own stadium, Sturm had already won 4-0 (1-0) at VfB Hohenems. The coaches of both teams have given some regular players a break. Austria Klagenfurt won only 2-1 against Regionalliga-West-Club St. Johann / Pongau in stoppage time.

Manprit Sarkaria (8th / head) brought Sturm to the front from the start of Vorarlberg. Graz’s side attempted to combine as instructed by coach Christian Ilzer, but mostly got stuck on a leg of a Hohenems player. After the break, Jakob Jantscher (46th) first messed up from a good position in the penalty area, but Niklas Geyrhofer (58th) was then there with his header.

David Affengruber (67th) made the decision less than ten minutes later – the third head of the guests. Substitute Kelvin Yeboah got the last point in the 91st minute. “We know we’re good at the level and they can open the box,” said defenseman Affengruber.

Salzburg celebrates Schtzenfest

Kalsdorf did not keep the “zero” for long against the double winners of Salzburg. Nicolas Seiwald scored 1-0 in the 10th minute. After that, however, the home side – with, among others, Noah Okafor, Maurits Kjaergaard and Antoine Bernede in the 20.8-year-old average starting lineup – missed out on good opportunities. Kjaergaard only shot goalkeeper Lukas Waltl at close range in the 21st minute.

After a foul against captain Rasmus Kristensen, who had been held by the jersey, the Dne converted the penalty even before the break (38th). A little later, the Argentines hoisted Nicolas Capaldo (40th) and Okafor (44th) to a well-deserved rest. The Swiss scored the first goal after half-time in the 52nd minute, Benjamin Sesko (63rd) 6-0.

Bryan Okoh (73rd) and the very hardworking Kjaergaard (91st) were also added to the shooting list. “The team did exactly what we wanted to do. The boys were eager from the start to accept this and win the game, ”said coach Matthias Jaissle. One of the problems was the withdrawal for injury of center-back Kamil Piatkowski, who limped off the pitch. There is also a question mark behind Maximilian Wber. Jaissle: “But Bryan Okoh would definitely be an alternative. He has amazing skills.”

Klagenfurt escapes embarrassment

Klagenfurt Austria fell behind in Pongau with a penalty from Florian Ellmer in the 52nd minute. Philipp Htter (78th) and Markus Pink (92nd) from an offside position saved the team of coach Peter Pacult from embarrassment. So far only one Bundesliga club, Austria, has been left out in the Cup second round. The Viennese had to say their farewells on Tuesday after losing penalties to second division Kapfenberg.

On the other hand, SV Lafnitz’s game at Schwarz-Wei Bregenz was clear. The second division won after a 4-0 break in the final 7-0, Thorsten Schriebl (40th, 73rd) scored a double.
